How to do a 5 minute mental health check ✨

Life can be so busy and demanding that sometimes… we forget to check in with ourselves.

When I feel like life is busy, I have to intentionally make sure I’m checking in with myself or it will get missed.

It’s hard to do this, unless you are actively making this a part of your routine; therefore, I recommend doing this once a day or every other day to gauge your emotions.

Putting my hand on my heart, closing my eyes, taking a few deep breath, allows me to connect myself . Then asking myself a series of questions help me understand if I truly am taking care of myself or neglecting those needs.

Let me know if this is helpful. I hope it is babes!!

... Read moreIt's so easy for life to sweep us off our feet, isn't it? One minute you're fine, the next you feel completely drained and overwhelmed, wondering, 'Do I *need a mental break*?' I totally get it. That's why I've found that having a go-to ritual, like a quick *5-minute mental health check*, can be a total game-changer. It’s not just about taking a pause; it’s about intentionally creating time to disconnect from the daily grind and genuinely checking in with your inner self. My favorite way to do this, as the article mentions, is to stop doing whatever it is that you're doing, hold your hand on your heart, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. This simple action alone can ground you instantly. It creates a mini-sanctuary wherever you are. But beyond the breathing, the real magic happens when you start asking yourself those crucial mental health check-in questions. Instead of just vague self-inquiry, I try to be specific. Here are some questions I often ask myself during my 5-minute check: How am I truly feeling right now, emotionally and physically? (Beyond "fine" – is it tired, anxious, excited, restless?) What's one thing that brought me joy or peace today, no matter how small? (Helps shift focus to gratitude.) Is there anything causing me stress or discomfort that I can address, even slightly, right now or plan to address later? (Acknowledges stressors without dwelling.) Am I neglecting any basic needs – hunger, thirst, rest, movement, connection? (Often, the simplest things are overlooked.) What does my body need from me in this moment? (To stretch, drink water, step away from the screen?) Reflect on your answers to these questions honestly. There's no right or wrong, just information. This isn't about fixing everything in five minutes, but about gaining mental health awareness and understanding where you stand. The goal is to see if you are truly taking care of yourself or if there are areas that need a little more love and attention. Once you have these insights, what's next? This is where your personalized self care plan starts to form. If you realize you're feeling incredibly stressed, maybe your next step is to schedule a longer break, listen to calming music, or reach out to a friend. If you're physically tired, perhaps an early night or a gentle walk is in order. The key is to acknowledge the need and take one small, manageable step towards meeting it. Making this a consistent practice, even daily, will transform how you manage your well-being. It’s like a mini-therapy session you give yourself. It helps you catch potential overwhelm before it snowballs, ensuring you're proactively nurturing your mental and emotional health. So, next time you feel the urge for a mental break, remember you have a powerful tool within reach – your own 5-minute mental health check.
