DAY 26: ESCAPING THE GREAT WALL

Probably the coolest place I’ve ever woken up. Turns out I wasn’t the only one crazy enough to do this so we teamed up and decided to risk it even further by sneaking on the restored tourist section of the wall.

I’m traveling to all seven wonders of the world without flying and you don’t wanna miss out.

Waking up near the Great Wall offers a unique perspective away from the usual crowded tourist spots, allowing for an authentic and tranquil experience. One personal tip for travelers attempting to explore the Great Wall beyond the typical paths is to prepare for the physical challenge—it’s a hike that requires good stamina, especially if you venture onto less restored or off-the-beaten-path sections. Travel light and bring sufficient water, as facilities can be limited. Teaming up with like-minded travelers can make the journey safer and more enjoyable. In my experience, sharing this fascinating adventure with others opened opportunities to exchange stories and tips, making the challenge more memorable and less daunting. It is essential, however, to respect local rules and guidelines to preserve the wall's heritage and ensure personal safety. If you plan to document your travels like Lucas, consider using trackers or apps like Polarsteps to monitor distances and daily steps, providing a motivational record of your overland progress. Beyond the Great Wall, don’t miss the chance to explore the surrounding landscapes and villages, which offer a glimpse into China's rich culture and history. Overall, the experience of visiting the Great Wall overland ties in perfectly with an eco-conscious approach to travel, reducing carbon footprints while deeply engaging with the environment and local communities. It’s rewarding, immersive, and a once-in-a-lifetime journey that every lover of the Seven Wonders should consider.
