During my 8-day trip, I found that using a Suica or Pasmo card made traveling around Tokyo incredibly easy, cutting down the hassle of buying individual tickets. For day trips to places like Nikko or Kawaguchiko, I recommend considering a Japan Rail (JR) Pass to save money and time. Staying in Shinjuku or Shibuya is a game-changer since these areas offer fantastic access to major sights and vibrant nightlife. Don't miss exploring hidden gems like Omoide Yokocho for authentic vibes or the Tsukiji Outer Market for delicious street food. When planning your day at Hakone, try to stay overnight at a traditional ryokan with onsen baths—it’s a relaxing and culturally rich experience that truly enhanced my visit. Keeping an eye on Fuji’s visibility is important, as the mountain can be obscured by clouds, especially in summer. Also, hopping on the Hakone Ropeway and the pirate ship cruise on Lake Ashi offer breathtaking views that you shouldn't skip. For shopping lovers, Omotesando and Takeshita Street in Harajuku provide a mix of high-end boutiques and quirky youth fashion. Lastly, try to include a calm moment at Meiji Shrine or Yoyogi Park to balance the energetic city experiences. These spots gave me a glimpse into Japan’s spiritual and peaceful side amid a bustling itinerary.
