People think healing is about forgiving the people who hurt you.
Or changing your habits.
Or becoming a different person.
But healing goes much deeper than that.
Healing is being able to close your eyes and sit with the younger version of yourself.
The one who felt unseen.
The one who felt responsible for everything.
The one who learned to stay small, stay quiet, stay alert just to feel safe.
And instead of judging them, fixing them, or wishing they had done something differently…
You wrap your arms around them.
You tell them:
“You don’t have to carry this anymore.”
“None of this was your fault to hold.”
“You can rest now.”
“I’ve got us from here.”
Because the truth is, that younger version of you never disappeared.
They’ve been running the show from the background all along.
The people-pleasing.
The overthinking.
The anxiety.
The need to prove yourself.
The fear of being too much or not enough.
Healing begins when that younger version of you finally realizes they’re no longer alone.
When they stop waiting for someone else to rescue them and realize you came back for them.
And something shifts.
Your nervous system softens.
The armor gets heavier than the healing.
The hypervigilance begins to loosen its grip.
For the first time, your body realizes the danger has passed.
Not because your past changed.
But because you did.
Because the person you’ve been waiting for your whole life…
Was you.
And you finally came back.
