Choosing to catch up on Bible reading over watching the State of the Union reflects a deliberate decision to invest time in nourishing one’s mind and soul.
From my own experience, setting aside time for spiritual readings can bring a deeper sense of peace and clarity, providing guidance in daily life that news consumption might not offer. Having moments dedicated to reading sacred texts fosters mindfulness and encourages a positive outlook even in turbulent times.
Moreover, opting out of overwhelming current events can be a form of self-care, helping reduce anxiety and information overload. Instead, personal reading allows for reflection, promotes critical thinking, and strengthens values that are important to an individual.
This approach doesn’t mean avoiding the world but rather balancing external awareness with internal grounding. When we choose what to focus on wisely, such as Bible reading or any meaningful activity, we gain in both spiritual and emotional wellbeing. It’s a reminder that sometimes, we truly do have better things to do—things that uplift and sustain us beyond the immediate demands of news cycles.
