For years, I carried the label, almost like a burden, of being the 'fat Asian' at school. That phrase stuck with me, shaping my self-perception and confidence for far too long. Reaching 330 lbs was a wake-up call; my health was declining, and my self-esteem was at an all-time low. I knew I needed a change, not just to shed pounds, but to reclaim my narrative and embrace a healthier, happier me. The first step was the hardest: acknowledging where I was and committing to a sustainable path forward. I started by making small, consistent dietary changes. Instead of drastic restrictions, I focused on incorporating more whole foods, fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and controlling portion sizes. Learning to cook healthy meals became a new passion, allowing me to take control of what I put into my body. It wasn't about deprivation, but about nourishing myself properly. Alongside nutrition, exercise became a cornerstone of my transformation. Starting at 330 lbs, intense workouts felt daunting. I began with gentle walks, gradually increasing duration and intensity. Soon, those walks turned into jogs, and I found joy in strength training. Understanding that consistency trumps intensity, especially in the beginning, was crucial. There were days I lacked motivation, but reminding myself of my 'why' – shedding that 'fat Asian' label and building a stronger, healthier self – kept me going. This journey wasn't linear; I faced plateaus, succumbed to cravings, and had moments of doubt. But each setback became an opportunity to learn and refine my approach. I focused on celebrating small victories and understanding that true transformation involves patience and self-compassion. The mental shift was profound: I stopped seeing food as comfort and started viewing it as fuel. I learned to listen to my body's cues and developed a healthier relationship with movement. Reaching 200 lbs was an incredible milestone, but the journey didn't end there. Maintaining this newfound health required building sustainable habits. It's now a lifestyle, not a temporary diet. The confidence I've gained is immeasurable. I no longer feel defined by a label from my past but by my strength, resilience, and commitment to well-being. Plus, along the way, I've embraced other forms of self-expression, like getting 50 tattoos, each a marker of my evolving self and journey. This transformation from 330 lbs to 200 lbs has truly been about finding my power and rewriting my story.
