We are dealing with the fourth largest military in the world, mutual aid is helpful for harm reduction but we need international support here

1/31 Edited to

... Read moreIn my experience following social justice movements, the call for international sanctions against ICE agents is not just about symbolic resistance but a crucial step to enact tangible change. ICE, functioning within one of the world's largest military frameworks, wields significant power that impacts countless lives, especially immigrants facing systemic oppression. The key to making these sanctions effective lies in the collective action of multiple nations. From what I’ve seen, merely naming and shaming ICE agents falls short because of the support structures protecting them, including some state departments. Effective harm reduction demands actions that hit where it hurts most—such as restricting travel, freezing assets, and limiting business operations connected to these agents and their families. Activists globally can amplify their impact by urging their governments to implement these sanctions decisively. It’s not about general opposition to a country but pinpointing the individuals enforcing harmful policies. This strategy encourages a global economy where oppressive actions are costly for perpetrators, thereby creating real deterrents. Additionally, mutual aid networks play a crucial role in immediate harm reduction and community support, but they cannot replace the power of international state-level enforcement. Drawing from various campaigns I've studied, combining grassroots activism with diplomatic pressure is the most effective way to counter systemic injustice embedded within powerful institutions. Ultimately, facing such a formidable entity requires coordinated efforts that transcend borders. For anyone committed to anti-fascism and human rights, moving beyond rhetoric to strategic sanctioning can form a cornerstone of impactful resistance.
