Bipolar 2, Mood Stabilizers And Me

This video was taken on one of my good days. Bipolar isn’t always chaotic. Sometimes it looks like needing 12 hours of sleep and still waking up emotionally hungover.

I started mood stabilizers and antipsychotics a year ago and it saved me, but it also made me grieve the version of me that could fly too close to the sun.

Here’s what I’ve learned about being on and staying on medication:

• The stability is worth the sacrifice. The highs feel amazing but I know feeling safe is better for me in the long run.

• Side effects are real but not permanent. Emotional blunting, fog, stomachaches, but it’s gotten better with time and dose changes.

• You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Not for your diagnosis, your meds, or your boundaries. Do right by YOU.

Having a humor about it also helps me cope. I’ve found many people going through the same struggles on Tik Tok and on here. All different perspectives, different ways to cope but all supportive of one another. I’m still learning and adjusting. But I’m proud of the peace I’ve fought for. Empowerment comes from prioritizing self-care and mental health without stigma or external judgment.
