🔥Don't let the numbers intimidate! Use the 'probability' rule, flip the game against old people.
Have companions ever been?
Seeing an opponent with a higher rating, a GM sign, an IM, or even just a number ahead of it makes the heart swing... this is what's called "Rating Intimidation," or ratings intimidation.
It's not what our opponents do to us, it's the psychological warfare we create ourselves in our heads!
Today, Admin will invite his friends to find a way out how to fight it. 🚀
1️⃣ Ratings are numbers, not prophecies.
Ratings are statistics of the past, not predictions of the future.
The Grand Master 2700 could also miss out on losing to the IM 2400.
📌 Empirical examples such as the Tata Steel Chess 2021 8th round around the world have to inscribe the name of Andrey Esipenko, an 18-year-old Russian boy with a rating of 2677 at the time, who successfully toppled legendary world champion Magnus Carlsen (rating 2862).
The gap of nearly 200 points is statistically enormous, but on the 64-eye board,..Everything starts at 0-0. This is proof that in a chess game, anything can always happen.
2️⃣ Change the frame of mind: "What will I learn from this game?"
Don't start with the question, "How can you win?"
"What will I learn from this game?"
Meeting someone who is (theoretically) better is a golden opportunity because a friend will:
🧠 saw new ideas.
🥊 Practice defense in pressure situations.
🤔. More understand your own mistakes.
3️⃣ Focus on "position on the board," not "person."
Admin wants his friend to try to forget his opponent's name and ratings.
Because the real enemy is Position, not the opponent.
👉 to think like solving a living puzzle.
He walked one eye. The companion was just looking for the best answer.
One eye at a time, one position at a time. That's enough, GM Susan Polgar once said briefly, but deeply:
"Play the board, not the opponent."
(Playing with the board, not with the opponent)
4️⃣ Everyone is human, and man is wrong.
Let's not forget that even Stockfish has "Incorrect."
So let's say something to a flesh-blooded human!
Higher ratings can be tired, hot-headed, or even simple Blunder like a companion, so our job is to play the best in every eye.
In the end, on this planet... nothing is 100% certain. 🎲
No matter how high the ratings, you can miss it.
No matter how secondary you are, you still have the right to win.
Don't let "numbers" determine all our values.
Because chess and life are games of probability.
The only thing we can control is to play the best in every eye.
And proud of my own efforts. 💪
