I prefer a sturdy grill that sits securely over a campfire ring. It’s important to build a fire that produces hot coals rather than high flames to avoid burning the meat. Lighting the fire ahead of time and letting it burn down to coals usually takes about an hour. While waiting, you can prepare your steak by seasoning it with salt, pepper, and some garlic powder—simple flavors let the meat shine. When cooking, I flip the steak every few minutes to get a nice sear on both sides while ensuring even cooking. Using a meat thermometer helps me avoid overcooking; I aim for medium rare, around 130°F internal temperature. Resting the steak for five minutes after grilling lets the juices redistribute for a tender bite.
