🧠reading helps me name things📚

I read to find words for feelings

I used to keep inside.

Some books don’t change my mind,

they change my language.

That’s why I keep reading.

Why do you read?

... Read moreReading is a powerful tool for connecting with and understanding our own emotions. Often, feelings can be vague or overwhelming until we find the right words to describe them. Through reading, especially literature that explores human experiences deeply, I’ve learned to recognize and name emotions I previously struggled to articulate. This process is not just about expanding vocabulary; it’s about shaping how we think and perceive ourselves and others. I’ve noticed that books don’t always change what I think outright, but they often reshape the language I use internally and externally. For example, reading poetry or memoirs where emotions are finely described helped me understand subtle feelings like melancholy, nostalgia, or quiet joy, which I once thought were hard to explain. When I find the right word, it feels like a revelation—giving shape to what was previously formless in my mind. Keeping a reading habit has become a personal practice for me to stay in tune with my inner world and to communicate more clearly with others. Sharing readings with others also deepens this effect, contributing to richer conversations about our experiences. Asking 'Why do you read?' can reveal as much about someone’s needs as about their tastes; for many, including myself, it is about connection, empathy, and self-discovery. If you haven’t yet explored how reading changes your language of feelings, I encourage you to pay attention to how your choice of words evolves with your reading selections. You might find, as I have, that books do more than tell stories—they help us name and share the complex textures of our lives.
