this is the worst book I have ever read

5/2 Edited to

... Read moreAfter finishing "Haunting Adeline" by H.D. Carlton, I felt compelled to share more about why this book stood out in the worst possible way for me. Dark romance is a genre I usually enjoy for its intense emotional layers and complex characters, but this read left me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. Firstly, the character development felt shallow and inconsistent. The main characters lacked believable growth and their motivations often seemed forced. For me, a relationship meant to be dark and intense must still have a grounding in relatable emotions or psychological depth, which I found missing here. Secondly, the pacing was an issue. Important plot points were rushed, while some scenes dragged unnecessarily, causing an uneven flow that disrupted my immersion. A balanced narrative rhythm is key in dark romance to build suspense and emotional connection, and unfortunately this book fell short. Lastly, the themes explored felt sensationalized without meaningful exploration. When a book dives into darker topics, it’s important to do so with sensitivity and insight rather than shock value alone. I found that "Haunting Adeline" leaned heavily on dramatic tropes without providing depth or thoughtful commentary. Given how much hype this book received on platforms like BookTok and YouTube, I had high expectations. It’s a reminder that popular recommendations don’t always align with personal taste, especially in niche genres like dark romance. If you’re considering reading this book, I recommend going into it with cautious expectations or reading multiple reviews to see if it might resonate with you differently. Sharing this experience is helpful because it highlights how subjective reading is and gauges what works for one reader might not for another. For those interested in dark romance, I’d suggest looking for stories with well-rounded characters, believable emotional arcs, and respectful treatment of sensitive themes — qualities I found lacking in "Haunting Adeline."

The worst advice I ever got about healing
Some advice sounds helpful… until you realize it’s keeping you stuck. Healing isn’t loud. It’s not dramatic. It’s not something you “get over.” It’s something you slowly learn to walk through. Every time you listen to your emotions instead of suppressing them — that’s healing. Every time
