Freshly retied
10 months into this braidlocs journey
Embarking on a braidlocs journey can be both exciting and challenging. At the 10-month mark, freshly retied braidlocs can offer a renewed sense of style and help maintain the health and appearance of your hair. From my experience, the key to thriving braidlocs is regular maintenance combined with gentle care. When retieing your braidlocs, it’s important to avoid excessive tension to prevent hair breakage and scalp discomfort. Using natural oils such as jojoba or coconut oil can nourish the scalp and locs, keeping them hydrated and preventing dryness. I personally find that spacing out reties to every 8-10 weeks allows my hair to breathe and reduces risk of damage. Microlocs, in particular, offer versatility and allow for more styling options compared to larger braidlocs. However, they require delicate handling, especially when washing and retieing. DIY care routines, including protective styles at night like silk scarves or bonnets, can enhance the longevity of your locs. Beyond maintenance, embracing your natural hair texture is a rewarding part of this journey. It can boost confidence and encourage self-expression through various styles. Sharing experiences within the natural hair community, whether online or in person, provides valuable support and inspiration. Overall, patience and consistency are essential when caring for braidlocs and microlocs. Each journey is unique, but with mindful care, your braidlocs can remain healthy, stylish, and a true reflection of your natural beauty.
