Moving Day
Is it really happening… kinda 😅
There’s a few projects that need to be finished (not counting any of our own DIYs), but we are heading somewhere at this point…. I hope….
PS: we are not moved in yet, but we moved a few things in and started prepping TO move in.
We were told we could move in Friday, but didn’t happen… so we got a call today again that we can move in.
(Such a mess huh)

Moving into a new home often comes with a unique set of challenges that articles and checklists don't always prepare you for. I know the original post mentioned the 'mess' and delays, and trust me, that's a universal moving truth! It’s easy to forget how complex moving can be until you’re knee-deep in boxes and last-minute issues. From scheduling mishaps to unexpected construction delays, the actual move-in day can feel like a test of patience. My personal experience has taught me that flexibility is key – sometimes, things just don't go according to plan, and that's okay! To help you navigate your own new home journey, I've put together a few tips that I wish I'd focused on more, especially when dealing with the kind of 'wait-and-see' situation mentioned in the original post. This isn't just about packing; it's about minding the details that make the transition smoother. 1. Pre-Move Planning is Your Best Friend: Start with a solid pre-move checklist, weeks or even months in advance. This includes changing your address, transferring utilities, and notifying essential services. Don't forget to confirm move-in dates and times with all parties involved – movers, real estate agents, and construction teams if it's a new build. Double-check, then triple-check! It sounds simple, but those details can derail everything. 2. Pack Smart, Not Just Hard: When it comes to packing, resist the urge to just throw things in boxes. Label everything clearly with contents AND room destination. Create an 'essentials' box for the first night: toiletries, a change of clothes, basic tools, snacks, device chargers, and important documents. This saved my sanity during my last move when the kitchen boxes were nowhere to be found! 3. Prepare for the Unexpected (Delays Happen!): What happens when your move-in date shifts, like in the original post? Have a contingency plan. Can you extend your current lease for a few days? Do you have temporary storage options? A flexible mindset and a backup plan can turn a crisis into a minor inconvenience. Communication is crucial here – keep everyone updated. 4. Utility Check Before You Step In: Confirm all utilities (electricity, water, internet) are scheduled to be connected BEFORE your actual move-in day. There's nothing worse than arriving at a new, empty house with no lights or Wi-Fi! I learned this the hard way when I spent my first night relying on phone data and a flashlight. 5. Settle In, Don't Sprint: Once you're in, don't rush to unpack everything. Focus on setting up essential rooms first: bedrooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen. Take your time to settle in. And don't forget to explore your new neighborhood – finding local grocery stores, pharmacies, and even a good coffee shop can make a big difference in feeling at home. 6. Long-Distance? Think Big Picture: If your move is across state lines, the checklist expands. Research new state regulations for vehicle registration, driver's licenses, and pet licensing. Factor in travel time and potential overnight stays. Consider hiring professional movers experienced with long-distance hauls – it's an investment that can save a lot of stress. Moving is never easy, but by preparing for the common pitfalls and learning from others' experiences (like ours!), you can make the transition much smoother. Good luck with your next move!
