Day3 of Makeup From Different Years

2024/3/14 Edited to

... Read moreYou know how much I love experimenting with different makeup eras, and today, I finally tackled the ultimate decade of bold self-expression: the 80s! After seeing so many amazing retro looks, I just had to try my hand at the iconic 80s makeup and hair. It's truly a vibe of its own – think vibrant colors, dramatic shapes, and volume, volume, volume! My first step was the eyes, and let me tell you, subtlety was NOT on the menu! I went for a bold, almost neon blue eyeshadow that swept all the way up to my brow bone. Layering was key here; I used a lighter shade on the inner corner and a deeper one on the outer V for some dimension. And of course, a healthy dose of black eyeliner, both on the upper lash line and smudged lightly on the lower, was essential. Finishing off with several coats of mascara gave me those big, doll-like lashes that were so popular. Next up: blush! If you thought current trends were about subtle contour, the 80s would laugh. I applied a bright fuchsia blush, sweeping it from my temples down to the apples of my cheeks. Seriously, the higher and more noticeable, the better! It created that dramatic, sculpted look that defined the decade. It felt a little wild at first, but once it was on, I totally embraced the power it gave my face. For the lips, I kept it classic with a bright, frosty pink lipstick. While reds and plums were also popular, I felt the pink really tied into the vibrant eye and cheek look I was going for. A little lip liner helped define the shape, making sure the color popped and stayed put. Now for the hair – oh, the hair! This was probably the most fun (and challenging!) part. The 80s were all about volume, so I started by spritzing my damp hair with a volumizing spray and blow-drying it upside down for maximum lift. Then came the backcombing – section by section, I teased my hair at the roots until it stood up almost on its own. For that quintessential 80s look, I gathered a section of hair on one side, just above my ear, and secured it with a scrunchie into a high, slightly messy side-ponytail. A generous spritz (or ten!) of strong-hold hairspray was non-negotiable to keep everything in place. I even tried a bit of crimping on some loose strands around my face for extra texture. It felt like my hair had a life of its own! What I loved most about this transformation was how unapologetically bold it was. The 80s really encouraged individuality and pushing boundaries, and that's something I can totally get behind. If you're thinking of trying an 80s look yourself, here are my top tips: Don't be afraid of color! Go big with your blush and eyeshadow. Invest in a good volumizing hair product and hairspray. And most importantly, have fun with it! It's all about embracing that lively, energetic spirit of the decade. I felt like I stepped right out of a music video. Definitely recommend giving this a try for your next themed party or just a fun weekend experiment!
