But watching her clearly, I noticed something different—her mind appeared calm, focused, and less cluttered compared to mine and many others. To dive deeper into this, I tried adopting her habits one by one, especially her 5 rules which changed how I interact with my digital world: 1. **The First Hour Is Yours:** Instead of jumping onto my phone immediately, I began dedicating the first hour after waking up to quiet reflection or light reading. No notifications, no news. This creates a calm mindset for the day and reduces anxiety triggered by information overload. 2. **Eat Without Screens:** I used to scroll during meals, thinking it helped me multitask. But eating without screens helped me become more mindful of my food and surroundings, improving digestion and making me appreciate the moment more. 3. **Purposeful Phone Use:** Before picking up my phone, I now ask myself "What am I looking for right now?" If I don’t have a clear reason, I avoid unlocking it. This simple question helped me reduce endless scrolling and wasted time. 4. **Go Outside Phone-Free:** Daily walks without headphones or cameras allow me to connect with nature and clear my thoughts. It’s become the part of my day I protect fiercely. 5. **Avoid News and Notifications Early On:** Delaying exposure to news or alerts until after morning quiet time prevents stress and keeps my brain clear and focused. These small lifestyle shifts influence neuroplasticity positively, helping rewire the brain to prioritize clarity and calmness over distraction. While social media has undeniable benefits, moderating its use can significantly enhance mental clarity and wellbeing. Trying these rules gradually made me feel less overwhelmed and more present, and I continue learning and appreciating the freedom that comes from mindful scrolling and dedicated personal time.
