Maybe I Was Missing Something All Along 💜

Maybe it’s nothing… but I started noticing the same thing over and over again.

A remote.

A snack.

A balloon.

Something random she found.

No matter what it was, Bella always seemed to bring it to me.

I didn’t think much of it at first. Then I started looking back through old videos and realized it had been happening all along.

Sometimes the things we almost overlook end up meaning the most. 💜

... Read moreAs a parent of a child with autism, I’ve come to realize that sometimes the smallest actions carry the greatest meaning. When Bella started bringing me random things—a remote, a snack, or a balloon—I initially thought it was just a quirky habit. However, upon reflection and revisiting old videos, I recognized it as her unique way of connecting and communicating. In many children with nonverbal autism, traditional communication methods may be limited, so these gestures become vital expressions of love, trust, or a desire to share experiences. For us as parents, it’s a reminder to pause and observe closely because these little moments can reveal how our children experience and interact with the world. From my own journey, embracing these gestures helped deepen my bond with Bella and allowed me to better understand her needs and feelings. It taught me patience and the importance of appreciating nuances that others might overlook. If you’re a fellow special needs parent, I encourage you to treasure these small but significant interactions—they might just be your child’s way of saying “I love you” in their own special language. Moreover, sharing these experiences publicly, whether through videos or social media, can raise awareness about nonverbal autism and help more families recognize the powerful messages behind everyday behaviors. Ultimately, sometimes the things we almost overlook truly mean the most.
