The Weight of a Broken Trust

​It made me think that introversion is a disease. She made me feel that being introverted was the reason I was tiring to be with. She viewed introversion as a horrible trait.

​This year made me realize that refriending people who did something so unpleasant, to the point of questioning your existence, shouldn't be an option. Cut all ties. Forgive them. Forget what they did. Above all else, never get back with them, especially when you are terrified that they will talk behind your back again. Never refriend someone when you have to be conscious and careful with your actions and words because they might use them against you in the future. Never refriend them when you can't be your true self because you're so scared of making a mistake and being laughed at. What they did was already traumatizing. Love yourself and stay away from this kind of person.

​Be with people where you can be yourself. No pretense. Be with people who can accept your flaws. Be with people who can help you better yourself. Be with people who truly love you unconditionally.

This experience may cause you to question your self-worth or even your existence. It's not uncommon to feel reluctant to re-establish ties with those who have caused such pain. In fact, the decision to forgive but not re-friend is a healthy boundary that protects your well-being and allows you to heal fully. Surrounding yourself with people who accept you as you are, without the need to mask your true self, is crucial. True friends embrace your introversion and flaws and support your growth without judgment. These are the relationships that foster unconditional love and help you become a better version of yourself. It's essential to prioritize such genuine friendships over toxic ones that demand pretense or make you feel constantly on edge. Moreover, self-love plays a pivotal role in overcoming the trauma of broken trust. Loving yourself means recognizing your value beyond the hurt inflicted by others and choosing to stay away from those who do not respect or appreciate you. Remember, friendship should uplift and nurture you, not cause fear or anxiety. In summary, the weight of broken trust can be crushing, but it also offers an opportunity to redefine your boundaries and reinforce your self-respect. Embrace friendships that validate your true self and walk away from those that threaten your peace. Your mental and emotional health deserve nothing less.
