Don't gan chiong when building pc ah

5/14 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I built my first PC, I was eager to get everything up and running quickly, but I made the common mistake of not checking every small detail thoroughly. One crucial lesson I learned was to always remove all plastic stickers from components such as the CPU cooler before installation. These stickers act as insulators and prevent proper heat transfer from the CPU to the cooler, causing dangerous temperature spikes. Another point to consider is the placement of RAM sticks. Incorrectly placed RAM can lead to your system not booting or running suboptimally. I had an experience where my PC failed to start simply because the RAM was not installed in the recommended slots. It’s always a good idea to consult the motherboard manual and ensure all parts are installed correctly. Don’t get overwhelmed by the number of parts! Take your time to organize your components, read the instructions carefully, and if possible, watch build guides before starting. Overloading your PC case with components improperly or rushing can cause cable management issues and restrict airflow, further adding to heat problems. Patience is key when building a PC. The phrase “Don’t gan chiong” perfectly captures this—meaning don’t rush. Doing the build carefully helps prevent frustrating errors that could lead to thermal issues, performance drops, or even hardware damage. I recommend double-checking every connection, ensuring all protective stickers are removed, and gradually tackling the build step-by-step. Sharing this experience with others, I found that many new builders face similar challenges, but taking the time and paying attention to these details resulted in a smooth build and a well-performing PC. So, remember, slow and steady wins the race—even when building your dream computer.

DIY PC Building is dead
Hot take: most people shouldn't build their own PC in 2026. Not because it's too hard — because the math and the effort don't always add up anymore. Slide 6 is the one people will argue with me about. Drop your take in the comments — is solo DIY still worth it?
