Traveling without leaving your city can be surprisingly enriching, as I've experienced during this week’s virtual Japan tour in Montreal. Starting off at NOODL, I enjoyed authentic Japanese quick bites reminiscent of a local 7/11 in Japan that serve up everything from refreshing ice-cup drinks to flavorful snacks. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Japanese tastes and the convenience store culture unique to Japan. The adventure continued at AXIA STATION, an arcade that brings the thrill of Japan’s popular GACHAPON machines to life. These capsule toy vending machines are a staple of Japanese pop culture and collectibles, and trying your luck at these mini surprises adds a playful touch to any visit. Lastly, MATCHA ZANMAI offered a delightful tea experience with traditional matcha desserts and ice cream that transported me straight to Japan’s cozy cafes. The delicate bitterness and rich flavor of matcha paired with sweets create an unmatched taste sensation. This series truly reinvents how we view travel by encouraging us to appreciate the cultural treasures around us. If you’re in Montreal or a similar multicultural city, I highly recommend seeking out local spots that celebrate international flavors and traditions. It’s an accessible way to satisfy wanderlust while supporting local businesses. I’m excited to see what country will be showcased next—drop your suggestions and join me in exploring the world one week at a time!
