My top tips to achieve toned abs:

By swiping right, you can see the variations to make the exercise even more challenging! I highly encourage you to add a dumbbell and increase the weight overtime so that you can target your abs.

Make sure to SQUEEZE your abs each and every rep. If you are not feeling the burn chances are that you aren’t squeezing your abs for long enough. Squeeze for 1 second, hold, and repeat.

... Read moreHey ladies! So, you've seen my 20-day abs challenge post, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for my core strength and definition. I know achieving those toned abs can feel like a distant dream, but with consistent effort and the right techniques, it's totally within reach. I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how I tackled this challenge and some of my personal tips to help you get the most out of it, especially with those dumbbell Russian twists and crunches that really target your midsection! First off, let's talk about the star of the show: the Dumbbell Russian Twist. This exercise is phenomenal for hitting your obliques and really cinching in your waist. When I started, I focused on perfecting my form without any weight on a comfy yoga mat. Once I felt confident, I gradually introduced a light dumbbell. Here’s my breakdown: Sit on your yoga mat with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lean back slightly, engaging your core, until your torso is at about a 45-degree angle. Hold the dumbbell with both hands in front of your chest. Now, twist your torso to one side, bringing the dumbbell towards the floor next to your hip, and then twist to the other side. The key is to keep your core tight and control the movement, rather than just swinging the dumbbell. I always make sure my lower back isn't arching and that the twist comes from my core, not my arms. To make it more challenging, I lift my feet off the mat, balancing on my glutes. Over time, I've slowly increased the weight of my dumbbell, and trust me, you'll feel that burn! Next up, the classic Crunches, but elevated! We're not just doing basic crunches here; we're making them count. Just like with Russian twists, proper form is everything. Lie on your back on your yoga mat, knees bent, feet flat. Place your hands lightly behind your head or across your chest. Engage your abs and lift your head and shoulders off the mat. The goal isn't to touch your knees, but to feel that deep contraction in your upper abs. To really amplify this, I sometimes hold a smaller dumbbell against my chest. This added resistance forces your abs to work harder. Remember what I said in my original post – SQUEEZE those abs! I hold the contraction for a full second at the top, really feeling the muscle work, then slowly lower back down. Don't rush through the reps; control is key for maximum results and to prevent injury. If you're not feeling it, try a slight pause at the top of each crunch. Beyond the exercises themselves, consistency is your best friend in this 20-day abs challenge. I aimed to do my workout first thing in the morning to get it out of the way, or right after work. Don't forget about nutrition too! You can do all the crunches and Russian twists in the world, but if your diet isn't supporting your goals, you won't see those toned abs. I focused on lean protein, plenty of vegetables, and staying hydrated. And yes, rest days are just as important! Your muscles need time to recover and grow stronger. This challenge isn't just about physical changes; it's also about building discipline and proving to yourself what you're capable of. Seeing my progress photos from day 1 to day 20 was incredibly motivating. Remember, every rep counts, and every day you show up for yourself is a win.
