“Everybody believes in the Bible until Scriptures speak against things they love doing.”
This quote exposes the condition of the human heart. It is easy to believe the parts of God's Word that comfort us, but true faith also submits to the parts that correct us.
Jesus said:
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
— Luke 6:46 (KJV)
The Bible is not meant to be edited to fit our lifestyle. Our lives are to be changed to fit God's Word.
The apostle Paul warned:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”
— 2 Timothy 4:3 (KJV)
Many want a gospel that promises heaven without repentance, forgiveness without holiness, and Christ as Saviour without Christ as Lord. But God's Word calls sinners to repent and forsake sin.
The Lord declares:
“Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
— James 1:22 (KJV)
If Scripture convicts you, do not reject it. Let it humble you, correct you, and lead you to Christ. The Word of God is not our enemy—it is the truth that sets us free.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
— John 17:17 (KJV)
The question is not, “Do I believe the Bible?” The question is, “Will I obey the Bible when it confronts the sins I love?” Those who truly love Christ will submit to His Word, for Jesus said:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
— John 14:15 (KJV)
