A few months ago, I was so busy that my house was always messy which caused me more stress. I really like coming home to a clean and tidy home so I started just cleaning up countertops, Tokyo’s toys, my bed etc. every day. I vacuum and mop a few times a week and take one day to deep clean and do laundry. Cleaning is very therapeutic to me and I do it to relieve stress. Now if my house gets messy I know I’m getting depressed again, so I try to stay aware of that too.

Cleaning is often seen as a mundane chore, but for many people, it can serve as a powerful way to improve mental health and emotional well-being. The act of cleaning, organizing, and transforming a messy space into a tidy, orderly environment not only provides a sense of accomplishment but also creates a calming atmosphere that helps reduce anxiety and stress. The 'ARRON Before and after Cleaning' concept illustrates a clear example of how a clean home environment can positively influence mood. When you regularly clean surfaces like countertops, manage clutter such as toys or laundry, and maintain floors with vacuuming and mopping, you create an inviting space that encourages relaxation. This routine can become a form of mindfulness, grounding you in the present moment and distracting from negative thoughts that often accompany depression. Moreover, recognizing the state of your living space as an indicator of your mental health is important. When clutter accumulates, it can signal a drop in motivation and energy, often linked to depressive episodes. Using cleaning as a self-care practice helps to break this cycle. Setting a schedule—such as daily quick tidying, several days a week for vacuuming, and a weekly deep clean—can build structure into your routine, offering both physical and psychological benefits. Engaging with communities under hashtags like #cleantok and #depressioncleaning can provide additional motivation and support through shared experiences and before-and-after transformations. These connections remind us that maintaining cleanliness is not just for aesthetics but can be a vital tool in mental health management. Ultimately, by incorporating cleaning into your self-care regimen, you nurture both your living environment and your emotional wellbeing, turning a simple chore into an empowering therapy.
