June has been a fantastic month for diving into a variety of compelling books, ranging from romantic fiction to thought-provoking social commentary. I particularly enjoyed Paige Toon’s novels such as "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" and "Five Years From Now." Her storytelling captures the complexities of relationships, first loves, and emotional journeys in a way that deeply resonated with me. One novel that stood out was "What If I Never Get Over You," which beautifully explores the lingering pain of lost love and the hope of healing over time. On another note, the nonfiction works about Jay-Z and Black communities offered me a fresh perspective. The biography on Jay-Z, with a foreword by Pharrell and insights from Michael Eric Dyson, shed light on not just his career but his impact on his community. It was an eye-opening read about resilience and influence in a challenging societal landscape. Additionally, "Know Your Price" by Andre M. Perry profoundly addressed the ongoing struggles and value of Black lives and property in America’s Black cities. It was both a sobering and inspiring read that connected deeply with my own experiences and awareness of social issues today. These books remind me how essential it is to remain informed and empathetic about injustices while celebrating progress and culture. Whether you’re drawn to heartfelt romance or eager to learn about social justice and influential figures, these June reads offer something valuable. I highly recommend taking time to explore these books—they offer both emotional depth and enlightening education.
