Many popular spots in Southeast Asia like Bali, Indonesia; Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam; Siem Reap and Phnom Penh in Cambodia; and Chiang Mai in Thailand provide not only budget-friendly accommodations and food but also rich cultural experiences. For example, Bali offers stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife, while Siem Reap is your gateway to the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat temples. In South Asia, cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal or Udaipur and Jaipur in India shine during these months with pleasant weather and fewer crowds, making sightseeing more enjoyable and economical. Sri Lanka’s Colombo, Galle, and Kandy provide a diverse experience with beaches, historic sites, and lush landscapes. Meanwhile, Eastern Europe is becoming an increasingly popular budget travel destination. Cities like Krakow in Poland, Budapest in Hungary, Sofia in Bulgaria, and Lviv in Ukraine offer rich history, stunning architecture, and hearty cuisines at a fraction of the cost compared to Western Europe. Visiting in April and May means you’ll enjoy spring festivities and comfortable weather for city tours and outdoor activities. When I traveled to Chiang Mai in May, I found it to be an incredible mix of affordability and adventure. The local markets offered delicious street food at very low prices, and I could explore temples and nearby natural parks without spending much. Flights and accommodation were also much cheaper compared to peak seasons. To maximize savings, consider midweek flights and staying in guesthouses or hostels. Using local transport and eating street food not only saves money but also gives a more authentic travel experience. Wherever you choose to go, traveling in April and May allows you to avoid the crowds while enjoying beautiful destinations at lower costs.
