🍋 10 Things I wish I knew before healing

So, you’ve hit that point, huh? The point where you’re tired of feeling stuck, tired of the pain, and just ready for something different. I see you! And I know exactly what you’re going through because I’ve been there too. The road to healing can feel like stepping into a new world with no map, but I’m here to give you a heads up on some things I really wish I’d known before I took that first step.

1. Healing isn’t a straight line.

I know, I know. We all wouldlove a simple, straight shot to feeling better. But let’s be real: healing is no where near a straight shot. Some days you’re on top, thinking, "I got this," and other days? Well, you’re under a blanket with snacks wondering if you’re moving backward. Spoiler alert you’re not. Every twist and turn is part of the process.

2. You can’t heal in the same place that broke you.

Listen, you can’t expect to thrive when you’re still surrounded by the same people, habits, and mindsets that hurt you in the first place. You have to step away from what’s familiar to find what’s good for you. It’s hard, but it’s necessary. So pack that shit up and move towards the light, sis!

3. Boundaries are your best friends.

If I could shout this from the rooftops, I would. Setting boundaries doesn’t make you “mean” or “selfish.” It makes you safe. Learn to say “no” without explaining yourself. Guard your energy like it’s the last pair of your favorite shoes on sale!

4. Healing can be lonely sometimes.

Not everyone is going to understand your journey, and that’s okay. Sometimes you’ll have to walk alone, and that’s part of the magic. This isn’t about being lonely forever it’s about creating space for the right people to come in.

5. Self-love is a whole lifestyle.

Self-love is way more than bubble baths and spa days (even though those are amazing). It’s showing up for yourself on the rough days, forgiving yourself for past mistakes, and talking to yourself with kindness. Self-love is the foundation of everything else.

6. You’re allowed to feel all the feelings.

Girl, let those tears fall. Cry if you need to, scream into a pillow, write angry letters (that you’ll never send). Bottling it up only delays your growth. Feel everything, even if it’s messy and uncomfortable, because that’s how you release it.

7. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting.

Some people will tell you to “just let it go,” but here’s the thing: you don’t have to forget the past to move forward. Your story, even the hard parts, made you who you are. Honor it, learn from it, but don’t let it hold you back.

8. Growth can make people uncomfortable.

When you start healing, don’t be surprised if certain people in your life get weird about it. Not everyone will cheer for you when you decide to level up, but that’s a reflection of them, not you. Keep going, even if it shakes a few relationships.

9. Progress over perfection.

You’re not going to wake up one day with all your issues magically solved. Healing isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress. Celebrate the small wins, the baby steps, and remember that every little bit counts. Trust me we are doing better than we think.

10. You are so much stronger than you think.

Last but not least: give yourself credit. It takes courage to even start this journey, and I promise you have more strength in you than you realize. You’ll discover a version of yourself that you never knew existed, and she is going to amaze you.

If you’re just starting out on your healing journey, know that you’re not alone. This road might be bumpy, but you’re worth every single step. You’re healing for the girl you were, the woman you are, and the queen you’re becoming. Take a deep breath, grab a snack, and keep going you’ve got this!

... Read moreThe journey toward healing often begins with a single, profound realization: you simply cannot heal in the same environment that broke you. This isn't just about packing your bags and moving to a new city, though sometimes that's exactly what's needed. More often, it’s about recognizing the emotional, relational, and mental spaces that are holding you captive in your pain. I've learned firsthand that identifying these "broken places" is the first critical step. Is it a relationship that constantly drains your energy? A job that stifles your spirit? Or perhaps deeply ingrained negative thought patterns that keep replaying old wounds? These are the environments we often cling to out of comfort or fear, even as they prevent our growth. Stepping away from what's familiar, even if it's harmful, can feel incredibly daunting. There's the fear of the unknown, the guilt of potentially hurting others, or the powerful pull of attachment. But as I navigated my own path, I discovered that creating new, supportive environments – whether it's a new group of friends, a creative outlet, or even just dedicating time to quiet reflection – is absolutely essential. This shift isn't always easy; healing isn't a straight line, and there will be days you question every decision. But remember, every step you take to nurture a space conducive to your well-being is a victory. Part of building these new environments involves mastering the art of boundaries. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to embrace boundaries fiercely. They are not walls to keep people out, but rather gentle fences to protect your precious energy and peace. Learning to say "no" without guilt, to prioritize your needs, and to communicate your limits clearly will transform your relationships and your sense of self-worth. This is where self-love truly becomes a lifestyle. It’s not just about pampering; it's about showing up for yourself, honoring your needs, and making choices that serve your highest good, even when they’re difficult. There will inevitably be moments when growth can make people uncomfortable. Not everyone will understand or support your newfound boundaries or your decision to distance yourself from toxic influences. Some might even try to pull you back into the old dynamics. This is a reflection of their own discomfort, not a sign that you're doing something wrong. Stay firm in your resolve, knowing that your healing journey is yours alone. It’s okay to feel all the feelings that come with these shifts – sadness, anger, liberation. Allow yourself to process them; bottling them up only hinders progress. Remember that healing doesn't mean forgetting the past or pretending it never happened. It means integrating your experiences, learning from them, and moving forward with renewed strength. Focus on progress over perfection. Some days will be breakthroughs, others will feel like setbacks, but "you are much stronger than you think" and every small step builds momentum. Trust your inner wisdom; it will guide you toward the environments and choices that truly support your healing and help you thrive. You're creating a life where you not only survive but truly flourish.
