How I Saved my Dry & Damaged Hair🎀

I have always loved dyeing my hair! I’m a natural blonde so it was very easy for middle and high school me to get cheap dye from sally’s and change it whatever color I wanted. Years of this (and not taking care of my hair) caused a lot of damage, leaving me with dry, fluffy hair!

After doing a TON of research and trying different products, these are the ones that work best for me and my hair type!

Here’s my hair routine:

1. Scrub Mielle Hair Oil into my scalp the night before washing it, then I cover w/ a silk or satin bonnet

2. I wash my hair probably every 4 days, starting with Olaplex No. 3. I use this every other wash, trying to saturate my hair while not waste the expensive product!

3. Scrub Olaplex No 4. into scalp, wash out, and then follow with saturating middle and ends w/ Olaplex No. 5. I usually let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing!

4. Saturate middle and ends with TJ hair mask! I let this sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing

5. I towel dry my hair, and then spray SunBum leave jn conditioner all over!

6. Once dry, i put my hair in overnight curls, or just leave it natural and wrapped in a lose bun in my bonnet.

7. The next few days I will rub a thin layer of Argan oil into my ends and over my hair to add to the shine and softness!

Hope this helps:) ❤️

... Read moreMy hair journey from vibrant dyes to brittle, 'dead' strands isn't unique. If you've ever looked in the mirror and felt disheartened by hair that's lost its bounce, shine, and softness, you're not alone. Many wonder, 'is my hair dead?' or 'is my hair damaged or dry?' It's a common concern, especially after coloring or intensive styling. So, what does 'dead' hair actually mean? Hair itself isn't biologically alive, but when we say it's 'dead,' we're referring to severe damage to the outer cuticle layer and even the inner cortex. This leads to a lack of elasticity, high porosity (meaning it absorbs and loses moisture quickly), frizz, and breakage. A quick test: take a strand of wet hair and stretch it. If it snaps easily, it's likely severely damaged. If it stretches a lot but doesn't return to its original length, it's weak. Healthy hair will stretch and bounce back. While my hair damage was largely due to years of dyeing, bleaching, and neglecting proper care, many other factors can contribute. Heat styling (straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers), harsh brushing when wet, UV exposure from the sun, and even tight hair ties can all cause significant stress. These culprits break down the hair's protective layers and internal bonds, leading to that dreaded dry, frizzy, and lifeless texture, especially common in bleached or highlighted hair. Repairing this kind of damage requires a consistent and gentle approach, focusing on rebuilding the hair's structure and replenishing moisture. That's why incorporating specific products and techniques into your routine, much like the one I discovered, is crucial. For instance, focusing on scalp health with an oil treatment can promote *thicker*, healthier growth from the very root. A nourished scalp is the foundation for strong strands. Then there's the magic of bond repair treatments, like Olaplex. These aren't just conditioners; they actively seek out and repair the broken disulfide bonds within the hair shaft, which are often shattered during chemical processes like bleaching. This literally helps to repair and strengthen all hair types, transforming severely damaged hair and leaving it feeling incredibly soft and resilient. Following up with intense conditioning and masks is vital to infuse deep moisture, smooth the cuticle, and add that much-desired *shine*. Don't underestimate the power of leave-in treatments. A good leave-in spray can detangle wet hair gently, *condition*, and provide a protective barrier against environmental aggressors. My hair feels super soft after using one, and it helps prevent further damage. And for overnight care, a silk or satin bonnet isn't just a luxury; it significantly helps to defrizz hair by reducing friction while you sleep. Finally, finishing with a quality oil, especially one infused with argan oil, is a game-changer. It instantly adds shine and softness to the ends, effectively restoring luster to even the driest, coarsest hair. It seriously feels like a life-saver for keeping my hair looking its best. Remember, bringing hair back from the brink of damage is a journey, not an overnight fix. Consistency with a gentle routine, minimizing heat styling, and protecting your hair from external elements are key. With patience and the right products, achieving smooth, shiny blonde hair after treatment is absolutely possible, transforming your hair from damaged to truly healthy.
