As someone who usually doesn’t gravitate toward sports romance novels, I was instantly drawn into The Wild Card by Piper Rayne. Having two narrators brings the characters to life, adding unique nuances to their personalities and emotions that can sometimes be lost in single-voice audiobooks. I found myself completely immersed, whether commuting or relaxing at home. Fans of sports romance will appreciate the authentic baseball backdrop featuring the Chicago Colts, which enhances the story’s immersive quality. Themes like enemies-to-lovers and found family provide rich layers to the characters’ journeys, making the romance feel earned rather than rushed. The Wild Card is also notable for its humor, which balances the high stakes and emotional drama perfectly. I can’t wait for the third book in this Dugout series, as Piper Rayne continues to deliver engaging plots paired with memorable characters.
