Hey everyone! So, building on my first post about getting my belly button pierced, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what I've learned, especially since so many of you asked about the healing process and other considerations. First off, about the pain: I genuinely found it to be a 0/10, just a quick sting as the jewelry went in. But I know everyone's pain tolerance is different! What helped me was going to a reputable piercer who was super quick and professional. They used a clamp, and honestly, the anticipation was worse than the actual piercing. If you're nervous, just breathe and trust your piercer! Now, let's talk about the healing journey, because this is where the real commitment comes in. My piercer told me it could take anywhere from 6 months to a year for a belly button piercing to fully heal – sometimes even longer! The most important thing is keeping it clean. I've been doing a saline solution soak twice a day. You can buy pre-made saline spray or mix a quarter teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt with one cup of warm distilled water. Gently clean around the piercing with a clean cotton swab, making sure to remove any crusties. Avoid harsh soaps, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide, as these can irritate the fresh piercing. The original post mentioned avoiding pools, and that's a HUGE one! My piercer also stressed staying away from hot tubs, lakes, and even prolonged baths. Basically, anything that might introduce bacteria to the open wound. Stick to showers! Also, be really mindful of your clothing. High-waisted pants or anything that rubs against the piercing can cause irritation and prolong healing. Loose, breathable clothes are your best friend. Some of you might be wondering about body types, like 'chubby belly piercing.' From what I've heard and seen, a good piercer can evaluate your anatomy to determine if a navel piercing is suitable and where the best placement would be for proper healing. It's not about size, but about the specific shape and depth of your navel. Always consult with a professional who specializes in body piercings; they'll give you the best advice for your body. And please, *please*, never attempt a 'belly button piercing at home'! The risks are just too high. You're dealing with unsterile equipment, a lack of anatomical knowledge, and a high chance of severe infection, scarring, or improper placement. It's definitely an investment worth making for your health and the longevity of your piercing to go to a professional studio. Finally, let's talk about 'infected belly button piercing' signs. While a little redness and swelling are normal in the first few days, keep an eye out for excessive redness, throbbing pain, green or yellowish discharge (not clear or white 'crusties'), a foul smell, or fever. If you notice any of these, don't try to self-diagnose or treat it with home remedies! Contact your piercer immediately, and if things seem serious, see a doctor. Early intervention is key to preventing bigger issues. I hope this extra info helps anyone considering a belly button piercing. It's a super cute accessory, but proper care is essential for a happy, healthy piercing! What other piercing questions do you have?
