Insomnia. Have you ever thought of sleep as being a luxury? I didn’t until the last few years. It’s almost comical how our society in the US prides itself on denying our bodies natural need.

Insomnia is something I’ve had since my pregnancy with my second child. I don’t see a lot of women talking about it though. As we speak it’s 4:48am and I’ve been up for the last hour and a half. It’s like this every night. I’m just up; tired and restless. Thinking.

... Read moreInsomnia is a common yet often overlooked issue, particularly among mothers. Understanding the causes of insomnia is crucial. Factors like hormonal changes, stress, and lifestyle shifts after childbirth can contribute to sleeplessness. Many mothers feel isolated in their struggles, but it’s essential to realize you are not alone. There are numerous strategies to combat insomnia. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or gentle yoga before bed can help calm the mind. Additionally, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule and creating a sleep-friendly environment (like minimizing light and noise) are effective practices. Diet also plays a role in sleep health; reducing caffeine intake and having lighter meals in the evening can promote better sleep quality. If insomnia persists, seeking guidance from a healthcare professional may provide personalized solutions or therapies to ease the journey back to restful sleep. Embracing open discussions about sleeplessness can foster connection, alleviate isolation, and ultimately create pathways to recovery.
