Punjab Police say a woman in India and her daughter in Surrey, B.C. scammed over $200K from Indian men by faking marriages and promising Canadian visas. Victims were shown photos, spoke to the daughter via video, and sent money before being ghosted. The scheme was uncovered after a victim received a suspicious voice note. On July 10, police raided a fake engagement and arrested the mother, her son, and an accomplice. IRCC says marriage fraud can lead to removal from Canada.
