Formacio Pizzeria🚨
Last I was here I complimented the food and asked if they got to keep the tips. They told me they have to hand all tips to the owner at the end of the day, and at the end of the month, the owner gives each staff member just $20.😳
That’s illegal in Texas. I double checked with another employee, and they confirmed it. Imagine working hard for great service, only for management to pocket the tips meant for you. ❌😤
I’m all about supporting local but to the management of Formacio’s: Taking staff tips and giving back a flat amount isn’t a valid tip pool, it’s tip theft. 🚔🚨
Always ask when tipping, in this case the employees don’t even get to keep the money! ‼️
Working in the restaurant industry often relies heavily on tips as a significant part of employees' income. At Formacio Pizzeria in Mercedes, Texas, multiple employees have come forward with disturbing claims that their tips are confiscated daily by management and only a fixed $20 is returned monthly, which raises serious legal and ethical concerns. According to Texas labor laws and federal regulations, tips are the property of employees. Employers cannot legally retain or redistribute tips arbitrarily. An arrangement where tips are collected by the owner and dispersed as a flat rate is considered tip theft, a violation that can lead to legal action. Employees should never have to hand over their hard-earned gratuities to management. Beyond tip theft, reports from former staff reveal alarming working conditions, including exposure to unsanitary environments with cockroaches and rodents, unpaid extended shifts, and forced labor for minors. These practices not only compromise workplace safety and health standards but also may violate wage and hour laws. If you plan to dine or work at local restaurants like Formacio Pizzeria, it’s crucial to ask clear questions regarding tipping policies. Transparency about how tips are handled can protect workers from exploitation and inform customers who wish to support fair labor practices. Moreover, employee rights groups and labor boards provide resources and avenues for reporting illegal practices. Supporting establishments that uphold honest employee compensation and healthy work environments fosters a positive community and ensures fair treatment for all service workers. Awareness and vigilance about workplace conditions and tipping norms empower both employees and patrons to advocate for justice and improved standards in the hospitality industry.
