Formacio Pizzeria🚨
Last I was here I complimented the food and asked if they got to keep the tips. They told me they have to hand all tips to the owner at the end of the day, and at the end of the month, the owner gives each staff member just $20.😳
That’s illegal in Texas. I double checked with another employee, and they confirmed it. Imagine working hard for great service, only for management to pocket the tips meant for you. ❌😤
I’m all about supporting local but to the management of Formacio’s: Taking staff tips and giving back a flat amount isn’t a valid tip pool, it’s tip theft. 🚔🚨
Always ask when tipping, in this case the employees don’t even get to keep the money! ‼️ #formaciopizzeria #mercedestx #956valley #956rgv #rgvreviews
It’s important for customers and local community members to understand how tipping laws protect employees and ensure fair treatment. In Texas, tips are the property of the employees, not the business owners, and employers cannot withhold tips or redistribute them arbitrarily. The practice of collecting all tips and then returning a flat monthly sum to staff violates the Texas Labor Code and federal wage and hour laws. Employees at Formacio Pizzeria have shared concerning accounts of this illegal practice, along with harsh working conditions like unpaid overtime, enforced long shifts, and unsanitary workplace issues including pest infestations. Such reports highlight not only financial injustice but also potential health risks for workers and customers alike. Tipping correctly supports servers who rely on these gratuities as a significant part of their income, often surpassing minimum wage. When tips are stolen or mismanaged, it leaves hardworking employees underpaid and undervalued. If you choose to support local businesses, it’s essential to inquire discreetly about tipping policies to ensure your generosity reaches the intended hands. Advocating for employee rights and reporting unfair labor practices can help create a healthier, fairer dining environment. Community awareness and vigilance can also put pressure on businesses to comply with legal standards and improve their workplace conditions. If you work in or frequent establishments that seem to mishandle tips or mistreat staff, consider taking action by contacting local labor authorities or sharing your experiences. Remember, tipping is a way to thank great service, but it should never be a source of exploitation. Protect employees’ rights and help cultivate transparency in the hospitality industry in Mercedes and beyond.
