Book 55/60 of the year rating📚🤎

⭐️Book 55/60 this year⭐️

📖 Name of the Book: lights out

📄 Plot: stalker/mask kink vibes. Main guy falls for a nurse who he learns has the same kink as him, so he begins stalker her.

📖 Genre: dark romance

📄 My Favorite Quotes: “I have no regrets about publicly claiming”.

💭 My Thoughts: i loved this book. There was a lot of banter between the two main people. The only thing that i wasn’t a big fan of is i went in blind expecting a super dark romance and got a golden retriever man who has a dark side and i wasn’t expecting it! I ended up loving the book in the end❤️

... Read moreAfter sharing my initial thoughts on Navessa Allen's 'Lights Out,' I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why this dark romance captured my attention and what made it a memorable read for me this year. When I picked up 'Lights Out,' I was definitely in the mood for something intense and gritty, and a dark romance promising 'stalker/mask kink vibes' sounded like just the ticket. For me, dark romance isn't just about controversial themes; it's about exploring the grey areas of love, obsession, and desire that often get ignored in traditional romance. 'Lights Out' certainly delivers on the 'dark' aspect, especially with the protagonist's obsessive nature and the intriguing 'mask kink' element. It creates a palpable tension and a sense of forbidden allure that keeps you turning pages. What I found particularly fascinating was how Navessa Allen wove these darker themes into a narrative that still managed to feel emotionally resonant. It wasn't just shock value; there was a genuine connection developing amidst the unconventional circumstances. However, my biggest surprise, and ultimately part of why I loved it, was the hero himself. I went in expecting a purely villainous, unrepentant stalker, but what I got was this incredible 'golden retriever man who has a dark side.' If you're unfamiliar with this trope, it's essentially a character who is sweet, loyal, and outwardly charming, but with a hidden, often morally ambiguous or obsessive, core. It completely flipped my expectations! Instead of a straightforward dark anti-hero, I was presented with a character whose darker tendencies were juxtaposed with a surprising sweetness and devotion. This unexpected blend added so much depth and conflict, making me root for them in ways I didn't anticipate. It challenged my preconceived notions of what a dark romance hero could be, making the story feel fresh and engaging. The book's cover, with its blue skull design, perfectly hints at this duality – a bit menacing, but also intriguing, much like the main character's personality. My 3-star rating might seem modest, but it reflects a journey of evolving expectations. Initially, the 'golden retriever' aspect threw me off because I was geared for pure darkness. But once I adjusted, I truly appreciated the clever execution. The banter between the leads was fantastic, sparking with wit and chemistry, which is something I always look for in any romance. The plot moved at a great pace, keeping me invested in their unusual dynamic. It’s a book that makes you think about what you truly define as 'dark' and how much 'light' you're willing to accept within those boundaries. If you're like me and enjoy dark romance but also appreciate characters with unexpected layers, or perhaps you're curious about the 'golden retriever man with a dark side' trope, then 'Lights Out' could be a compelling read for you. It's not a light read, but it offers a unique take on obsession and unconventional love. I'd recommend going in with an open mind, ready for a story that might just surprise you with its blend of darkness and unexpected charm. Don't go in expecting a pure villain, but rather a complex character who will make you question your own judgments on what makes a captivating romance.

I believe I’ve seen it billed as a dark romantic comedy. Plus the author based Josh’s (unmasked) personality on her husband.
