Prepping my oldest for her 6th grade year 😌
As my oldest child gets ready to enter 6th grade, I've realized how important it is to prepare not just academically, but emotionally and practically for this new stage. The transition to middle school or upper elementary grades can be challenging, and having a plan can really help ease any anxiety. One of the key things I've found helpful is setting up a dedicated homework and study space. Having an organized, quiet spot at home encourages focus and makes it easier for her to keep track of assignments. I also encourage her to use a planner or a digital calendar to jot down homework deadlines and extracurricular activities, which builds her time management skills. Another tip is to talk openly about the changes she might experience in 6th grade — new teachers, more subjects, and social dynamics. We discuss strategies for making new friends and handling stress, which helps build her confidence. Involving her in back-to-school shopping has been a fun way to get her excited and feeling prepared. Choosing school supplies and planning her outfits together gives her a sense of control and readiness. Lastly, I remind her that it’s okay to ask for help — from teachers, family members, or friends. Cultivating this mindset early on makes the school year more manageable and enjoyable. Preparing for 6th grade isn’t just about academics; it’s about supporting growth and resilience in many areas.
