Shakshuka Recipe | Savory Breakfast Idea

I had leftover red pasta sauce and didn’t want pasta. Here’s what I made. It’s not authentic but it’s still good!

Ingredients:

• Red sauce or can of tomatoes

• Red pepper

• Onion

• Eggs

• Cumin, paprika, garlic powder, chili powder of any kind

• Bread for serving

• (Optional) Literally any kind of peppers

Directions:

1. In a pan, fry chopped bell peppers, onion, and (optionally) other peppers.

2. Once they start to char, pour in a can of tomatoes or red sauce. Let it simmer. Add water as necessary to prevent it from getting too thick.

3. As it thickens, mix in your spices.

4. Create a pocket in the sauce after it has slightly thickened. Crack an egg into this pocket. Cover the egg whites in the sauce. I suggest covering the pan with a lid for an even cook. Cook until the eggs are to your liking.

5. Serve with bread. Enjoy!

Additional notes: if you’re using a can of red sauce, fill up the empty can with a bit of water to get ALL of the sauce out. For my recipe, I added in chopped jalapeños and chipotle chili powder to make it spicier.
