When I was planning my study abroad in Ireland, I knew I wanted to see as much as possible without breaking the bank. My biggest tip for budget travel? Look for free attractions and consider public transport or carpooling. Ireland offers so much more than just its famous pubs, and I loved finding those hidden gems! One of my absolute favorite experiences was visiting Slane Castle. While the castle itself is stunning, the real highlight for me was the Slane Distillery tour. If you're a whiskey fan, or even just curious about the process, it's a must-do! You get to learn about their unique triple-casked whiskey and, of course, enjoy a tasting at the end. It's a fantastic way to dive into Irish heritage and enjoy a unique experience that’s often overlooked by first-time visitors. Another breathtaking stop was Kylemore Abbey. Nestled amidst mountains and by a lake, it looks straight out of a fairy tale. I highly recommend spending time exploring the Victorian Walled Garden – it’s incredibly peaceful and beautifully maintained. The adult individual tickets were around €17, which felt like a fair price for the history and natural beauty you get to experience. It’s truly a serene escape and a highlight for anyone looking for 'abbey travel Ireland' insights! While in Dublin, I made sure to take advantage of the National Gallery of Ireland. What many people don't realize is that most of Ireland's national museums and galleries are completely free to enter! It's an incredible way to soak up art and history without spending a penny. Beyond the museums, I found that just wandering through Dublin's historic streets and soaking in the atmosphere was a rewarding experience. And of course, the majestic Cliffs of Aran (or Cliffs of Moher, depending on your route – I visited the Aran Islands and saw similar dramatic cliffs there) are simply unforgettable. Pictures truly don't do them justice. The sheer scale and raw beauty of the Atlantic coastline are something you have to witness firsthand. If you're staying in County Galway, making a trip out to Inishmore for the Cliffs is a phenomenal natural wonder. Don't forget that Ireland also has a passion for sports! While my trip didn't include it, watching a rugby game at Affidea Stadium in Belfast is on my list for next time, especially if I can snag cheap tickets around €12-€15 as I heard is possible. It’s a different side of Irish culture! Overall, by mixing paid attractions with free ones, opting for local eateries, and sometimes picking up groceries, I found it totally possible to have an amazing adventure without overspending.
