Epilepsy awareness day

1 week agoEdited to

... Read moreEpilepsy Awareness Day, also known as Purple Day, is observed annually on March 26 to increase understanding about epilepsy and reduce the stigma surrounding this neurological disorder. From personal experience, I’ve seen how challenging it can be for people with epilepsy to openly discuss their condition due to widespread misconceptions. One important aspect of awareness is knowing that epilepsy is a spectrum disorder—symptoms and seizure types vary widely among individuals. Seizures can range from brief lapses of attention to full convulsions, and not everyone with epilepsy experiences the same triggers or frequency. This diversity makes raising awareness critical for fostering empathy rather than judgment. Wearing purple on March 26 is a simple yet powerful gesture to show solidarity. Many communities and organizations host events such as educational talks, fundraisers, and social media campaigns to spread accurate information and support research. Sharing stories and information helps dispel myths, such as epilepsy being contagious or a mental illness. If you personally know someone with epilepsy, it’s helpful to learn basic first aid for seizures, so you can respond calmly if needed. Showing patience and inclusion makes a big difference—it’s important that people with epilepsy feel accepted in their social and professional environments. Ultimately, Epilepsy Awareness Day serves not only to educate the public but also to empower those living with the condition, advocating for better treatment options and societal understanding. Engaging in awareness activities—whether by attending events, donating, or simply spreading knowledge on social media—can contribute to meaningful change.

I had just come out of a big epileptic seizure before even starting my day. I was too groggy to notice an alert from Echo — and Ruben was too busy cleaning up the mayhem from the first seizure to notice. Typically, Echo barks to alert. But when human help is present, he’s taught to alert quietl

Last week was Purple Day! It's Epilepsy awareness!! I don't know how many know, but I was diagnosed 16 years ago, when I was 21 years old with epilepsy. I was in the Army at the time, and the general guess is that duplicate vaccinations may have been the cause, but nobody really knows! 🤷‍♀️

So I finally got discharged after 5 long days in the epilepsy monitoring unit. 🧠💜 My neurologist/epileptologist gave me some “homework” to take with me. Basically, it’s the same thing I’ve been told before to watch out for my seizures but now there’s more follow-up involved. I have to start
