GHANA MOVES TO EVACUATE CITIZEN FROM SOUTH AFRICA AFTER XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS

As I announced on TV3 a while ago, the Government of Ghana is relocating Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah, the Ghanaian legally living in South Africa who came under unwarranted xenophobic attack from a fringe vigilante group.

I have spoken to Mr. Asamoah directly and he is doing well despite the incessant threats.

We are taking him out of South Africa.

I wish to also commend the Government of South Africa for their reassuring response, particularly as conveyed in the press statement issued by the Hon. Minister for Police, Prof Firoz Cachalia.

We shall continue to make the protection of Ghanaians home and abroad our utmost priority.

No Ghanaian will be abandoned in harm’s way.

May Ghana , South Africa relations grow stronger and better from here. -Hon Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa (Minister for Foreign Affairs)

The situation in South Africa has highlighted the challenges faced by foreign nationals during times of social unrest. From personal stories shared by community members, such attacks often leave victims feeling isolated and vulnerable, especially when threats persist over time. Having talked to several individuals affected by similar circumstances, I can attest to the importance of swift governmental action as Ghana is demonstrating by evacuating Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah. Such measures not only prioritize the safety of citizens but also send a strong message about national solidarity. It is crucial for governments to maintain robust communication channels with their diaspora, offering support during crises. Community support networks, both within South Africa and abroad, play a critical role in monitoring and reporting incidents. Efforts by vigilante groups exploiting social tensions remind us that xenophobia stems from complex socioeconomic causes, requiring diplomatic engagement and grassroots education to foster tolerance. The commendation of South Africa's police minister's response reveals that cooperation between countries is feasible even amid difficult incidents. It opens doors for further collaboration on protecting immigrants' rights and developing prevention strategies. For people living abroad, staying informed, maintaining contact with consulates, and having emergency plans are essential practices. This recent development involving Ghanaian evacuees highlights the ongoing need for vigilance against xenophobia and the commitment of governments to safeguard their citizens worldwide. Overall, these events underscore the importance of unity and proactive diplomacy in maintaining strong Ghana-South Africa relations, ensuring no Ghanaian is abandoned in harm’s way.

Pretty paperback 🖤
This is definitely one of the prettiest paperbacks I own, and I love the fact the author does her own covers. I've only read one of her books so far, but I've heard nothing but good things and I'm super excited to start reading this! #paperbackbooks #newrelease #sprayededges #b
