Trying the new ultimate garlic parm Doritos
Not good
Okay, so I finally got my hands on the new Ultimate Garlic Parm Doritos that have been popping up everywhere! As a huge fan of both Doritos and anything garlic parmesan flavored, my expectations were honestly pretty high. I mean, what's not to love about savory garlic and rich parmesan cheese on a crunchy tortilla chip? I was picturing that classic Doritos toasted corn chip base, absolutely loaded with a bold, aromatic seasoning. I even made sure to grab a bag well before its 'BEST IF USED BY' date, hoping for peak freshness and flavor. But, oh boy, was I in for a surprise. My initial reaction after that first bite wasn't exactly what I'd hoped for. The flavor profile of these garlic parmesan Doritos felt... off. It wasn't the robust, savory garlic kick I was craving, nor was it the salty, slightly nutty taste of real parmesan. Instead, it leaned heavily into a somewhat artificial, almost chemical-like garlic powder taste that quickly became overwhelming. It lacked the depth and balance you'd expect from a premium 'ultimate' flavor. It felt like they tried to go big on the garlic but missed the mark on the parmesan and overall seasoning harmony. I kept hoping it would get better with each chip, trying to pinpoint exactly what was throwing me off. Was it just my taste buds? But no, my friends who tried them had similar reactions. It felt less like a delicious new snack and more like a novelty that fell flat. Compared to other Doritos flavors, like Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch, which have such distinct and well-loved profiles, the Ultimate Garlic Parm just didn't hold up. It lacked that addictive quality that makes you want to devour the whole bag. I've had many garlic parm tortilla chips from other brands that delivered a much more authentic and enjoyable experience. What I was really hoping for was something akin to freshly grated parmesan melting onto a warm, garlicky breadstick, but in chip form. Instead, it was a one-note garlic hit followed by a vague cheesy aftertaste that didn't quite register as parmesan. It made me wonder if they could have incorporated some more nuanced cheesy notes or perhaps a roasted garlic element to give it more depth. For an 'ultimate' flavor, I was expecting a truly elevated experience, not just more of an underwhelming base. So, after trying them thoroughly, my honest opinion is that these ultimate garlic parm Doritos are simply "not good." It’s a shame, because the concept has so much potential! I wouldn't recommend them if you're looking for an authentic or even a genuinely tasty garlic doritos experience. Save your snack cravings for a tried-and-true classic, or look for other brands that do the garlic parmesan flavor justice. Maybe Doritos will reformulate in the future, but for now, this one is a pass for me.
