My boyfriend made us filet mignon on the bbq last night. I found a bag of truffle tagliatelle pasta in the pantry. This dinner was so good and we had leftovers too. We love Costco. I love TJ Maxx for good quality food items. I promise the food items aren’t expired at TJ Maxx. I inspect and double check my items and ask my boyfriend to as well lol. Ive seen a lot of these Italian brands at speciality markets too. The pasta was so delicious, I loved the flavor and texture. I’m very grateful to enjoy this dinner. I know times are tough right now, I also know it may get tougher, but I hope you’re doing well despite it all.

The Ingredients
2 filet mignon steak
1 bundle of skinny asparagus
1.5 cups grated Parmesan
1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
A basic fettuccine cream sauce
1 bag of Italian truffle tagliatelle pasta (HomeGoods/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s)
1 cup grated Parmesan
2% milk (I added as I went, depending on sauce thickness preference)
4 tbsp unsalted Irish butter
Sea salt & ground peppercorn
Pinch of flour (for thickening sauce)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
Instructions
•Start with boiling your salted water for the truffle pasta. Follow instructions on label accordingly. In a pan, melt your butter, pour your milk, parm, sea salt, and pepper. Stir ensuring all sauce ingredients are combined. Add in flour to thicken the sauce. Air fry those asparagus! Clip off the asparagus ends. Add panko, grated parm, and top with sea salt, and ground peppercorns. Drizzle some olive oil too. Set your airfryer to 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. I cook until the panko is a little golden.
... Read moreOh my goodness, there's just something so incredibly satisfying about recreating a gourmet, restaurant-quality meal right in your own kitchen! That Filet Mignon and creamy truffle tagliatelle pasta night my boyfriend made for us was truly special, and it's easier than you might think to achieve those decadent flavors. I wanted to share a few more tips to help you master this delightful duo and make your dinner truly shine.
First, let's talk about that creamy truffle tagliatelle pasta. The key to success here is the sauce! You want it rich, light, and perfectly coating every single strand of those flat, wavy noodles. When making your basic cream sauce, keep the heat medium-low and stir constantly. If it feels too thick, incrementally add more milk or even a splash of the pasta water – it's starchy and helps the sauce cling beautifully. For that signature truffle flavor, don't be shy! Beyond a pre-made truffle pasta, you can enhance it with a good quality truffle oil drizzled in at the very end, or even a tiny bit of truffle paste stirred into the warm sauce. This gives you that aromatic earthiness that makes the dish feel so luxurious. The goal is a velvety consistency that almost looks like liquid silk, with those little specks of black pepper adding visual interest.
Now, onto the star of the show: the filet mignon. While we grilled ours on the BBQ, you can achieve a perfect medium-rare steak (just like the beautiful one in our meal!) right on your stovetop. Get a cast-iron skillet screaming hot with a high smoke point oil. Sear the filet for 2-3 minutes per side for that gorgeous crust, then pop it into a preheated oven (around 400°F) for another 5-8 minutes, depending on thickness, until it reaches your desired doneness. Always, always let your steak rest for at least 5-10 minutes after cooking. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every slice is tender and juicy. And don't feel limited to just filet! While it's certainly a treat, you could also use a well-marbled sirloin or even a flat iron steak for a more budget-friendly yet still delicious alternative to serve alongside your pasta. Slicing it against the grain before serving makes it incredibly tender and perfect for draping over that creamy pasta.
And let's not forget the parmesan panko asparagus! It's such a simple side but adds a wonderful crunch and freshness. The trick to air-frying them perfectly is not overcrowding the basket, allowing for even crisping. A generous sprinkle of panko breadcrumbs mixed with grated Parmesan before air-frying gives you that golden, irresistible crust. A little drizzle of olive oil helps everything adhere and brown beautifully.
Bringing it all together on a white plate truly makes the meal look as good as it tastes. The contrast of the sliced, medium-rare steak against the creamy truffle tagliatelle pasta, with the vibrant green parmesan panko asparagus, is just stunning. It's truly amazing what you can create at home with a little creativity and knowing where to snag those gourmet ingredients, even from places like TJ Maxx or Marshall's – I always double-check the dates, of course! Enjoying a meal like this is such a wonderful way to treat yourself and your loved ones.
