Oh my goodness, if you're looking for a destination that truly lets you know 'this is LIVING,' then Cartagena, Colombia, is absolutely it! My recent trip there was nothing short of magical, and I can honestly say it owes me nothing – only incredible memories. When I first stepped into the Walled City, I was immediately captivated by the vibrant colors, the historic architecture, and the lively atmosphere. It felt like stepping back in time, yet with all the modern comforts you could wish for. Let's talk about the Cartagena attractions that stole my heart. Walking through the Old City, with its charming cobblestone streets and flower-draped balconies, was an experience in itself. Every corner offered a new photo opportunity or a delicious street food vendor. Don't miss exploring the historic Castillo San Felipe de Barajas; the views from the top are breathtaking, and you can almost feel the history within its walls. I spent hours just wandering, getting lost in the beauty of it all. Another must-visit is the bohemian neighborhood of Getsemaní. It's bursting with incredible street art, trendy cafes, and a super energetic vibe, especially in the evenings when Plaza de la Trinidad comes alive with locals and tourists alike. I loved grabbing a drink and just soaking in the local culture there. But what’s a trip to the Caribbean without some stunning beaches? While Cartagena itself has city beaches like Bocagrande, which are lively and convenient, my absolute favorite beach experiences were just a short boat ride away. This brings me to the Rosario Islands (Islas del Rosario) – a true tropical paradise! Seriously, if you're planning your next vacation to Colombia, this day trip is non-negotiable. I booked a tour to the Rosario Islands, and it was one of the best decisions I made. The water there is crystal clear, a vibrant turquoise that you have to see to believe. We stopped at several different islands, each with its own charm. Some offer tranquil spots for swimming and sunbathing, while others are perfect for snorkeling among colorful coral reefs. I even got to try some fresh, grilled fish right on the beach, which was absolutely divine. The boat ride itself was an adventure, with stunning views of the coastline. If you're into water sports, many tours offer paddleboarding or kayaking. My advice? Spend as much time as you can relaxing and soaking in the natural beauty. It's the perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. For anyone looking to book your next vacation to Colombia and specifically Cartagena, prepare to be enchanted. From the rich history and cultural attractions to the pristine beaches and the unforgettable Rosario Islands, this city truly offers a diverse and enriching travel experience. I left feeling completely rejuvenated and already planning my return. It’s more than just a trip; it’s an unforgettable journey that reminds you what 'this is LIVING' truly means.
