Things that helped my insomnia

There are a few things that helped my insomnia. Listening to boring podcasts, sleepytime tea, not having caffeine. One trick was to lay down with my eyes closed and tried to stay awake! If I was trying to stay awake I would fall asleep. Distracting my brain really helped! Now that I have kids I don’t struggle falling asleep!

... Read moreInsomnia is a common sleep disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, leading to difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Many find that lifestyle adjustments and relaxation techniques can make a significant difference in improving sleep quality. For example, listening to boring or monotone podcasts helps some individuals by engaging the brain just enough to distract it from anxious thoughts, without overstimulating it. This method gently shifts focus away from worries and encourages relaxation. Avoiding caffeine, especially in the hours before bedtime, is another crucial step as caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and delays sleep onset. Incorporating herbal teas like sleepytime tea, which often includes soothing ingredients such as chamomile or valerian root, promotes a calming effect that primes the body for restful sleep. An interesting technique is to lie down with eyes closed and consciously try to stay awake. This paradoxical intention can ease the pressure to fall asleep, thereby reducing anxiety related to insomnia and allowing the body to naturally drift off. This approach works by distracting the brain, minimizing overthinking, and coaxing the nervous system into relaxation. Additionally, changes in routine brought on by life events—such as having children—can impact sleep patterns differently for each individual. For some, increased physical activity and adjusted schedules lead to improved ability to fall asleep quickly. Together, these evidence-based and experience-backed methods can help those struggling with insomnia to find personalized solutions that nurture healthy sleep habits and enhance overall well-being.

I struggle with insomnia and it doesn’t help that either my job, I have a changing sleep schedule (sometimes early morning shifts, sometimes late night shifts). I find listening to those youtube videos of calming sounds like rainstorms or beach waves to be helpful for me, to calm my brain down
