... Read moreHey everyone, I wanted to share something deeply personal today. We all face moments when life feels incredibly heavy, when it seems like the world is conspiring against us. I've certainly had my share of those days, and for a long time, I thought I had to bottle it all up, to appear strong no matter what. But I've learned so much on my own journey through tough times, and I realized that sharing what helps me might just help you too. It's truly okay to admit when you're struggling; you are absolutely not alone in feeling this way.
When you're asking yourself, 'What should I remember on tough days?' or 'How do I even begin getting through tough times?', these are the ten points I constantly come back to. They've been my anchor when things felt really bleak.
1. It's Okay Not to Be Okay. This was a huge realization for me. For so long, I felt like I had to put on a brave face, but acknowledging my pain, my sadness, or my anger was the first step towards healing. It's not a sign of weakness; in fact, it's incredibly brave to admit, 'I'm struggling right now.' If you're feeling weak, know that it's a perfectly human response, and sometimes, letting yourself feel it is the strongest thing you can do.
2. This Too Shall Pass. I know it's a cliché, but it's true. Every single challenging period I've faced, no matter how long it lasted, eventually came to an end. It helped me to visualize a tunnel; no matter how dark it is, there's always light at the other side. This reminder gives me hope when I feel like a hard time will never pass.
3. You're Stronger Than You Think. Seriously, you are! Think about all the things you've already overcome. Each challenge you've faced has built a layer of resilience within you. When I'm staying strong during difficult times, I often look back at past victories, big or small, to remind myself of my inner power.
4. Small Steps Count. When I'm going through tough times, the idea of solving everything at once is just too overwhelming. Instead, I break it down. Just 'one more thing' today, whether it's making my bed, sending one email, or going for a 10-minute walk. These tiny actions accumulate and create momentum, making the bigger picture seem less daunting.
5. You Don't Have to Do It Alone. This is probably the most vital lesson I've learned. Whether it's a friend, family member, a therapist, or even an online community like this one, reaching out for support makes a world of difference. When I needed help through tough times, I was often surprised by how many people genuinely cared and wanted to listen. Don't carry the burden by yourself.
6. Focus on What You Can Control. When life feels chaotic, it’s easy to get caught up in everything that's out of your hands. But I've found so much peace in shifting my focus to what I can influence – my reactions, my effort, my boundaries. It helps me regain a sense of agency when things are tough.
7. Growth Happens in Discomfort. Nobody likes discomfort, right? But looking back, every single period of significant personal growth in my life has stemmed from a challenging situation. These tough times force us to adapt, learn, and become better versions of ourselves. It’s part of a bigger growth journey.
8. Take One Day at a Time. When I'm feeling overwhelmed by what's ahead, I remind myself to just focus on today. What can I do today to make things a little bit better? This approach prevents me from spiraling into anxiety about the future and helps me manage the present moment more effectively, especially when I'm just going through a tough time.
9. You Deserve Grace. Be kind to yourself! It's so easy to fall into a trap of self-blame during difficult periods. But you are doing your best, and that's enough. Give yourself permission to rest, to grieve, to heal at your own pace. You absolutely deserve compassion, especially from yourself.
10. Your Story Isn't Over Yet. This is the ultimate reminder for me. No matter how challenging things seem right now, your life is a story still being written. There are new chapters, new beginnings, and new joys waiting for you. This perspective keeps me moving forward, even when I feel like giving up.
I hope these reminders offer you a little comfort and strength. Remember, you're incredibly resilient, and you're capable of navigating whatever comes your way. If you're going through a tough time right now, please know that things can and will get better.
