✨ The Gift of Discernment: Learning to See Beyond
In a world that tells us to “follow your heart”, discernment teaches us to guard it first. Discernment isn’t just spiritual wisdom, it’s protection. It’s that quiet pause before reacting, that tug in your spirit when something looks right but doesn’t feel right. It’s how God whispers, “Not this one. Not yet. Not them.”
Discernment helps you recognize what’s sent by God versus what’s just dressed up like it is.
It’s how we avoid confusion, manipulation, and unnecessary heartbreak. It’s how we align our choices with Heaven’s direction, not our emotions or pressure from the world.
Now, discernment doesn’t come from being “naturally wise.” It comes from walking closely with God. Spending time in His Word. Listening in prayer, not just talking. Asking for His perspective before moving on ours.
When you invite the Holy Spirit into your daily life, your discernment sharpens. You stop chasing validation and start following peace. You start to see people, opportunities, and even your own thoughts through a spiritual lens.
So how can we grow in discernment?
1. Pray for it daily. (James 1:5 — “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God.”)
2. Stay rooted in the Word. The Bible becomes your filter, helping you separate truth from lies.
3. Follow peace. (Colossians 3:15) God’s guidance rarely comes with chaos or pressure.
4. Pay attention to fruit. (Matthew 7:16) Real alignment with God always produces love, joy, patience, and humility.
Discernment is about protecting your spirit and walking in purpose. When you start discerning through God’s eyes, you’ll find yourself saying “no” more often, but those “yeses” will carry peace, alignment, and blessing. 💛

YEP! And I learned that the hard way. ever since I started looking into exactly what discernment is, how do I grow in it, I recognize more of the Holy Spirit and feel more convictions or even a moment to stop and think is this person or idea an alignment with the word of God? I’m still learning of course but I’m seeing more and more of how having discernment is extremely important in your walk in faith💓
