When you are nervous about ppl loving your book

2025/2/16 Edited to

... Read moreAs an author, putting your heart and soul onto the page is one thing, but sharing it with the world? That's a whole different level of vulnerability! I know many of you fellow writers out there can relate to that knot in your stomach as you wait for feedback. Will anyone truly get it? Will they love your characters as much as you do? I was definitely feeling those pre-release jitters with my latest manuscript. You pour so much into crafting a story, balancing character development with a plot that keeps readers guessing. You agonize over every sentence, every plot twist, hoping it's truly compelling. So when my proofreader started sending me texts, I was bracing myself for critical notes. Instead, what I got was pure gold, and honestly, it’s the kind of validation every author dreams of! She told me she was 'f*ing hooked' by Chapter 5, couldn't put it down, and was even sneaking reading** during work hours! Can you imagine a better compliment? Knowing your story is so gripping that someone is literally rushing through their workday to get back to it is just... *chef's kiss*. She mentioned she'd been in a 'reading SLUMP' and my book was 'saving me.' That really hit home because sometimes you just need that one story to pull you out of a reading rut, and to know mine was that book for her felt incredible. We chatted about the pacing, and she loved how the story unfolded. She found the 'time jump' location intriguing, saying the 'pacing is great' – slow enough to build character but fast enough to maintain intrigue. This kind of specific feedback is invaluable, helping me understand what resonates. The biggest surprise? She's already planning a 're-read' before it's even officially out! She even joked about being a 'crafty littler unaliver' because she was scared for a character, which means I've done my job making readers emotionally invested. It’s moments like these that remind you why you started writing in the first place. This experience has been such a boost, especially after all the self-doubt. To hear her say, 'It's so good. I need the rest of it' – well, that’s just the best feeling in the world. It’s not just about getting good reviews, it’s about connecting with readers on a deeper level. For any aspiring authors out there, don't underestimate the power of a good proofreader or beta reader. Their honest, enthusiastic feedback can turn your nervousness into pure joy, and remind you that your story truly matters. Keep writing, keep sharing, and keep believing in the magic you create!
