... Read moreAs a dedicated Pokémon trainer, there's nothing quite like the thrill of finding a shiny. And for me, the ultimate prize right now is a Shiny Palkia in Pokémon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC. It's a legendary Pokémon, already majestic, but its shiny form—a beautiful pinkish-purple—is simply breathtaking. I'm currently deep into Phase 26 of this hunt, and let me tell you, it's been a journey of patience, perseverance, and a little bit of madness!
Shiny hunting Palkia in Sword/Shield primarily involves repeating Dynamax Adventures. In these adventures, you battle through a series of Pokémon before facing a legendary at the end. The great thing is that you only find out if the Pokémon is shiny after the battle, when you're choosing which one to keep. This means you can reset if it's not shiny without having to catch it repeatedly. The odds are generally quite good in Dynamax Adventures, especially with the Shiny Charm, improving from 1/300 without it to 1/100 with it. But even with those improved odds, 26 phases means I've done hundreds, if not thousands, of these runs. Each run takes about 20-30 minutes, so you can imagine the hours I’ve poured in!
My strategy has evolved over time. Early on, I was super focused, trying to optimize every single move. Now, in Phase 26, it's more about endurance. I usually put on a podcast, listen to music, or even watch a show on the side. This helps break the monotony of battling the same Pokémon over and over. I've had so many close calls where I thought, 'This is it!' only for the summary screen to reveal a regular Palkia. It can be disheartening, but the thought of finally seeing that shimmering pink Palkia keeps me going. It’s truly a test of willpower.
For anyone else embarking on a similar legendary shiny hunt, here are a few tips I've picked up. First, make sure you have the Shiny Charm; it’s a game-changer. Second, build a reliable team for Dynamax Adventures. Having Pokémon with diverse types and moves is crucial for success, especially if you’re playing with NPCs. Third, and perhaps most importantly, manage your expectations and prevent burnout. Take breaks! Don't feel pressured to hunt for hours straight. Sometimes, even a day or two away from the game can refresh your motivation. And remember, every phase, every run, gets you one step closer to your goal.
While my ultimate goal right now is Shiny Palkia, the world of Galar is full of other incredible shiny Pokémon to chase. For instance, I recently saw a stunning shiny Dragapult – that cool blue-grey dragon with its little Dreepy perched on its head! It just reminds me how diverse and rewarding shiny hunting can be across the region, even for non-legendaries. Sometimes, switching it up or just appreciating other shinies can keep your motivation high for those longer legendary hunts. Wish me luck on Phase 27!
