Lays dropped the World Cup flavors, and I had to try them! It was a scavenger hunt searching for these, but we made it out!!🤣
French Onion $3.99 (7/10) - This one tasted like French onion, but it took a while for me to finally taste it. I believe this one is the most similar to its flavor, but it is kind of strange tasting it in a chip. The texture of the chip is perfect, and maybe eating this with a dip will improve its taste!
Garlic Sauce $3.99 (6/10) - This chip had an interesting tang to it. I like the garlic in it, it tasted like what it was supposed to be, it’s just the tang I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t realize apart of the flavor was lemon zest, so it makes complete sense why I taste a tang. With that being said, it does taste like what it described. I felt like I got a hint of Parmesan in there too, which I liked!
Steak with Chimichurri $3.99 (4/10) - Out of all the flavors, I thought I would like this one the most. It has a meaty taste to it, and I also taste the chimichurri. I see where they were trying to go with this. I feel that the meat taste was a lot for me. I’m just not a huge fan of the combo in a chip. It’s very artificial and it’s hard to enjoy it bc of the strong flavor.
Overall, these were fun to try! I wouldn’t purchase these myself again, but if you like experimenting with flavors, I would say give it a try!🥰
... Read moreFinding limited edition snacks like these Lay's World Cup flavors is always an adventure in itself! From scouring grocery aisles to checking multiple stores, that "scavenger hunt" feeling just adds to the excitement when you finally spot them. It makes the tasting experience even more anticipated, doesn't it? If you're like me, constantly on the lookout for new and unique chip flavors, then these special releases are probably high on your radar.
Let's dive a little deeper into what each of these World Cup-inspired chips brings to the table, especially for those curious about the flavor profiles beyond just a quick rating.
First up, the Brazilian-Style Garlic Sauce chips. The original review mentioned an unexpected tang, which I totally get! Knowing there's lemon zest in there clarifies so much. It's not just a straightforward garlic flavor—it's bright, zesty, and has a refreshing kick that prevents it from being too heavy. I found these incredibly addictive, especially if you're a fan of garlicky sauces with a slight acidity, like a good aioli. To truly elevate this chip, try pairing it with a light, crisp lager or even a sparkling soda. It could also be a fantastic crunchy topping for grilled chicken or fish, where that garlicky-lemon zest could really shine. The hint of Parmesan mentioned earlier also adds a subtle umami depth that makes it more complex than you'd expect.
Then there's the bold Argentinian-Style Steak with Chimichurri. This one was definitely a flavor journey! For those who found the meaty taste a bit overwhelming, I understand. It's certainly a strong and distinctive profile. However, if you appreciate savory, umami-rich snacks, these are quite unique. The chimichurri aspect adds a fresh, herbaceous counterpoint to the deep steak flavor, giving it a vibrant, almost peppery finish. I think these chips are best enjoyed slowly, perhaps with a rich, dark soda or even a red wine if you're feeling adventurous. They might also work well crumbled over a robust salad or even as a unique crust for baked chicken if you're into culinary experiments! It's definitely not your everyday chip, but it's an interesting exploration of a classic South American flavor combo.
Finally, the Wavy French Onion Soup flavor. This one felt like a comfortable classic, but with a twist. The "wavy" texture of the chip is actually perfect for this flavor, as it really holds onto that rich, savory onion powder, mimicking the creamy, hearty feel of actual French onion soup. The suggestion to eat it with a dip is spot on! A classic sour cream and onion dip would obviously be a fantastic match, enhancing the onion notes further. But don't stop there! Imagine dipping these into a warm, cheesy dip for an extra layer of indulgence, or even using them as a base for mini nachos with caramelized onions and gruyere. The flavor itself is comforting and familiar, but the wavy texture makes it feel a bit more substantial and satisfying than a regular flat chip.
Overall, trying limited edition items like these Lay's World Cup flavors is less about finding your new all-time favorite and more about the experience. It's about stepping out of your snack comfort zone, exploring global tastes, and having a fun conversation starter. My advice? Don't go into it expecting your usual chip experience. Approach them with an open mind, maybe even share them with friends for a taste-testing party! You might discover a surprising new favorite, or at the very least, have a memorable snack adventure. And who knows, maybe that Brazilian-Style Garlic Sauce will become your new obsession!
