Let’s talk about monitoring spirits..,,
Ever notice how some people follow you just to keep tabs on your life, not to support you? It’s like they’re watching through your window but never knocking on the door. Let’s talk about monitoring spirits and why discernment is crucial in this season.
You ever scroll through your followers list and think, “Why are you here?” You post about your faith, your growth, your healing and they’re silent. No likes, no comments, but they don’t miss a post. That’s not just coincidence, that’s spiritual surveillance.
The Bible speaks about this. In 1 Peter 5:8, we’re warned, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Monitoring spirits operate through people who are spiritually and emotionally unsettled. They’re not just curious; they’re seeking information to feed their own insecurities, jealousy, or manipulation tactics.
Remember Judas? He walked with Jesus, saw miracles firsthand, broke bread with Him, and still betrayed Him (Luke 22:47–48). That’s a perfect example of someone close enough to watch but never truly in alignment. Judas had a monitoring spirit, loyal in presence but disloyal in purpose.
Spiritually, monitoring spirits are linked to envy, pride, and control. Psychologically, this behavior mirrors narcissistic tendencies or obsessive jealousy, both tied to pathological envy, a condition rooted in insecurity and comparison.
In clinical terms, this can fall under Obsessive Personality Disorder (OPD) or Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), where individuals constantly observe others to feel a sense of superiority or control.
These people exhibit:
• Fixation on others’ progress
• Silent competition they never admit to
• Emotional instability tied to others’ success
• Passive-aggressive observation (watching but not engaging)
Monitoring spirits are real, both spiritually and psychologically. Everyone watching you isn’t cheering for you, but that’s okay, because your assignment isn’t for approval, it’s for purpose.
