When I was at my heaviest, around 200lbs, I experienced debilitating nausea, no menstrual cycle, and low energy that affected every part of my life. It felt like my condition was controlling me rather than the other way around.
One of the first steps I took was to better understand PCOS—it’s more than just weight or hormones, it impacts your entire system. By focusing on a balanced diet tailored for PCOS, including low-glycemic index foods and plenty of fiber, I was able to stabilize my blood sugar levels which helped reduce symptoms significantly. I combined this with gentle but regular exercise, which boosted my energy and improved my mood.
Perhaps most importantly, I worked on managing stress through mindfulness and adequate sleep. Stress can cause hormonal imbalances that worsen PCOS symptoms, so finding ways to relax and recharge helped me more than I expected.
Over time, these changes helped me lose over 40lbs, and importantly, I regained my regular menstrual cycle and energy levels. PCOS may always be a part of me, but by not letting it define my life and learning ways to heal, I found freedom and health. If you struggle with PCOS, know that healing is possible and start with small, sustainable steps that work for you.
